Hi Winchy, I have taken a photo and I am trying to put it on this thread however I am having a bit of trouble on my MacBook working out how to do it (transferring the picture from 'photos' to the 'thread')......this is the first time i have ever joined a website forum. The insert photo icon asked me for a url ?
.I'd agree with the figures Winchy is getting. I also do a fair bit of country driving and get around 7L/100 and 9 around town. If you like to take advantage of the sporty side of the car then expect a bit worse! However what I find amazing is that I also tow a 1,400kg caravan and still get about 13.5L/100 and yes that's the 1.8 TSI. I used to get 11-12 with a diesel Mazda CX-5. Love this car.

Hi Moreles ! Thanks very much for your reply... I think it might take me a while to get use to driving a 'petrol' again which I think I need to be on the throttle a bit earlier going up hills, as apposed to my diesel Focus which had heaps of torque and didn't seem to matter when you put your foot down to drive up a hill/rise. Can I ask how you found going from your diesel CX5 to the petrol Alltrack, and did you notice much difference in fuel costs/consumption (RON) ? The CX5 diesel was a serious contender to the Alltrack when I was looking around but I ended up with my new Alltrack, which is so boodiful to drive. I do wish VW had a Alltrack owners manual in pdf or similar, my eyes are having trouble reading some of the symbols which are printed too small for me......Thanks for your input Moreles.
The CX-5 was a good all-rounder that did everything ok. The Alltrack is classy, more fun, way better handling etc and does everything well. Looks are personal but i love the looks too. Getting back into petrol from diesel isn't such a big jump. It does change down gears a lot more and if you watch the real time fuel consumption it can be a bit disconcerting, but you get used to it and it's much quieter. On my last country trip of 1500kms, i averaged the same or better economy than with the CX-5 diesel.
You will pay more at the pump for the petrol, but the additional cost of diesel cars in Australia make it worth while in the long run.

I'm in Canada but I can say that I have not been disappointed by the mileage and here are the caveats:
DO
1. Ease into traffic intersections from stop light to green light, trying not to run yellows
2. Use your power for merging
3. On long trips, use the eco mode
4. Have a safety first/survival mindset for you and your passengers' well-being
DO NOT
1. Jackrabbit from traffic light and run every yellow
2. Drive aggressively
3. Take inner city routes when highway is available
4. Drive like someone in Fast & Furious / GTA / Need for Speed movies or video games
When I follow the "Do" list, I easily hit OR exceed mileage and arrive in better mental / physical condition
When the reptile brain takes over and I follow the "Do Not" list, I arrive like I've had way too much caffeine/adrenaline in my system

Reliability on a VW is always iffy. Here in the states, do you have a six year warranty as well? If yes...I think that goes a long way toward concerns about reliability. If you have a shorter warranty, it is a crap shoot.
One of the reasons I bought the VW Alltrack is that I detest cars with CVTs and most of the station wagons/estate cars/SUVs in this size seem to have CVTs. Ugh! One of the reasons that car companies use CVTs is that it is (a) cheaper and (b) gives you better fuel economy (at the risk of terminal boredom). But the DCT (if you are not getting a manual) gives you better performance but at a bit of a hit on fuel economy.
